Notably, the Pakistani Sikhs had been demanding the establishment of a university in Nankana Sahib from a long time. The proposal had first come to fore in 2003 during the tenure of Parvez Elahi.
The Pakistan government is likely to spend more than 2.5 billion rupees to develop a high standard infrastructure over 70 acres land allotted in May this year. However, the government however has not yet declared about the tentative period the varsity would be built.
Interacting with the media, the west Punjab’s CM Usman Buzdar said that the establishment of Baba Guru Nanak University in Nankana Sahib is the part of prime minister’s vision to facilitate students in Nankana Sahib and other adjoining districts.
A government official told the media that the construction of this university will begin as soon as the legal formalities in this regard are met.
