Ghulami Chetna March 1AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab (November 10, 2014)—Newly launched Sikh organization ‘Sikh Youth Front’ (SYF) on Sunday conducted the ‘Ghulami Chetna March’ (Slavery Awareness March) which was supported by many other like-minded Panthik organizations and large numbers of Sikh sangat. The motive of the march was to make Sikhs aware of the injustice and atrocities committed by the Indian state against them.
The march started from Fountain Chowk and concluded at Hall Gate. The participants were seen carrying banners displaying illustrations of Sikh political prisoners languishing in jails, victims of the 1984 Sikh genocide, farmer’s concerns and other issues of Sikhs. The demonstrators were chanting ‘Satnam-Waheguru.’
While talking to media persons, SYF president Dr. Sharanjit Singh Rataul said that the genocide of Sikhs had in fact started immediately after the partition of India. He said the motive of today’s march was not to seek any sort of justice but to make Sikhs aware that they are slaves in this country and slaves did never get justice.
SYF general secretary Bhai Papalpreet Singh and media secretary Bhai Pritpal singh said that since 1984 Sikhs have been facing Hindustani terror, an issue which is being raised by some international human rights organizations. However, these efforts fail to leave any impact on the rulers of this country. They said, “It directly suggests that Sikhs are facing slave-like conditions, and creating awareness among them in this regard is our basic duty.”
A large number of Sikh activists participated in the march, including SYF vice president Sukhdev Singh, Bhai Dilbag Singh Nagoke, Navdeep Sngh, Ranjit Singh, Bhai Shamsher Singh Kuharhka, Bhai Sukhjit Singh Khela, Bibi Daljit Kaur Kadian, Sikh Youth Federation Bhindranwala (Amritsar) chief Dr. Gurjinder Singh, Harpreet Singh Tony, Ek Noor Charitable Trust chairperson Bibi Manjit Kaur, Rajbir Singh, Karanbir Singh, Sukhwinder Singh mand etc. Childeren and women of martyrs’ families also took part in the march.
