AGWAN (GURDASPUR), Punjab (May 13, 2015)—Last rites of Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh Agwan’s father Bapu Tarlok Singh who passed away on May May 8, were performed today by thousands of Sikhs at his village Agwan (district Gurdaspur).
Due to long pending physical ailment, Bapu Tarlok Singh passed away at Fortis Escorts Hospital where he was under medical treatment.
Sikh Sangat attended Bapu’s last rites in great number. Leaders of various Sikh organizations including
Damdami Taksal, Akhand Kirtani Jatha, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Akali Dal (Badal), Akali Dal (Amritsar), Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani). It was typical occasion where all colors of Sikh nation were seen.
Following the Ardas, body of Bapu Tarlok Singh was brought to cremation ground where Sangat was reciting Gurbani and ‘Satnam-Waheguru’. His body was given salute with ‘Shiri Sahib’ (sword) following which it was set on fire and again saluted with gunfire.
Thereafter, the slogans of ‘Bole So Nihal-Sat Sri Akal’, ‘Raj Karega Khalsa’, ‘Khalistan’ were echoed in sky. Arrangement of Langar was made in Gurdwara Sahib built in memory of Bhai Satwant Singh. It was
announced there that Bhog of Bapu Jee would be held on May 17.
It is worth mentioning that along with Bhai Beant Singh and Bhai Kehar Singh, Bhai Satwant Singh took revenge of deadly military attack on Sri Darbar Sahib by assassinating the then Indian Prime Minister Indra Gandhi following old Sikh traditions. He was hanged in 1989. After his martyrdom, Bapu Tarlok Singh fulfilled his Panthik responsibility with full dedication. Thus, all the Sikhs have been giving respect to him.
